Watusi’s Doghouse Funhouse

Inspired by the “King-Size Annuals” that were a summer staple of my early comic-reading years, I wanted to publish a similar oversized special for my Watusi the Talking Dog series. But, wisely foreseeing that I couldn’t commit to even an “annual” series, I came up with Watusi’s Doghouse Funhouse instead! DHFH provides me the chance to invite cartoonists working in a similar vein to join in the fun, and spotlight some of their own characters at the same time! While I try to make all the Watusi comics something that kids and adults can enjoy reading, this title’s debut was tied in to my public library’s summer reading theme (and distributed to kids who finished their summer reading goals), and so DHFH became my first title geared specifically to younger readers!

Watusi’s Doghouse Funhouse #2 (November 2017)
This collection of water-themed comics was originally planned as a 2010 followup to the first issue (see– even annual plans can get easily derailed!); in addition to my own comic stories featuring Watusi and other members of his supporting cast, it features contributions from some of my favorite creators: a Thunderdawg epic by Mike Sullivan, Magnet Man by Brien Wayne Powell, Doggie & Jilly by Drew Boynton, and Little Arlo by Tom Cherry! Plus comics from JB Winter,  Ivan Martin, Joyce Steiner, and Paige Kallenberger.

Watusi’s Doghouse Funhouse #1 (June 2009)
This collection of comics were based around the general theme of creativity (“Be Creative @ Your Library” was that year’s summer reading theme); in addition to my own comic stories featuring Watusi and other members of his supporting cast (one of which is a collaboration with Tom Cherry!), it features Dapper the Penguin (by Mark Morehouse), Doggie & Jilly (by Drew Boynton), Thunderdawg (by Mike Sullivan and Bill Hook! Plus comics from Tom Cherry, Matt Levin, Ivan Martin, and JB Winter.
